Ordering
Production runs 4–6 weeks depending on the piece — a felted ornament or keychain is about four weeks, a carved keepsake box five to six. Add 8–12 business days for express delivery. The production window for each piece is listed on its page.
Yes — a large part of what we make is memorial work, and it is handled with the care you would expect. Old or slightly blurry photographs are fine; we will tell you honestly what can be recovered from them. If you are ordering for a recently lost animal, say so in the notes and we will prioritise the sketch.
Two animals on one plaque or pendant works well; beyond three the detail starts to suffer at small sizes. Message us before ordering a multi-pet piece so we can advise on size and price — there is usually an additional charge of 30–50%.
Cats and dogs are what we do most, but rabbits, horses, parrots and ferrets have all been through the workshop. Send photos and we will tell you whether the piece you want suits the animal.
Photos & sketches
Three to five: one straight on with the eyes visible, one from each side, and one full body if the pose matters. Daylight is much better than flash. Phone photos are fine — we are not looking for a professional shoot, we are looking for the shape of the face.
Always. A pencil study arrives within three working days of the photos, and two rounds of changes are included. Nothing is cut, carved or engraved until you have approved it in writing. If you cannot approve it, you get a full refund of the deposit.
Before carving starts, yes. Once the knife is in the leather or the chisel is in the wood, changes are not possible without starting again — which is why we are deliberately slow at the sketch stage.
Shipping & duties
Worldwide, with express service focused on the United States, Canada and Australia. DHL or UPS Express, 8–12 business days in transit with tracking. Flat $12, free over $299.
Duties and import taxes are prepaid by us for the US, Canada and Australia, so nothing is collected at your door. For other countries we ship DDU — any local charges are the buyer’s responsibility and are usually modest for a single small item.
A linen pouch, then a rigid box, then an outer carton with corner protection. Pendants and rings travel in a small linen-covered box. Gift notes are handwritten if you ask.
Materials & care
No — the carving is compressed into the leather, not applied to it. It will darken and soften with handling, which most people prefer. Keep it out of prolonged soaking; if it gets wet, dry it away from direct heat and condition it afterwards.
Dust with a dry cloth. Keep out of direct sun and away from radiators, which is what causes checking. Re-oil every 12–18 months with a food-grade oil or beeswax balm; a small tin is included with every wood piece.
It will, slowly — that is normal for solid silver and easy to reverse with the polishing cloth included. Store it in the pouch, away from rubber bands and chlorinated water. Oxidised finishes are intentional and will lighten over years of wear.
Yes, it is built as a working collar with solid hardware. The tooled plate is riveted, not glued. For dogs who swim daily we recommend the stainless hardware option.
Payment & remakes
Because the likeness is decided in the sketch, not in the carving. If we took payment up front and started cutting, we would be guessing — and a guess is the one thing you cannot fix afterwards. The basket is not a checkout; it is the start of the conversation. If you would rather pay immediately and skip the sketch, we would rather not take the order.
Message us on WhatsApp and we reply there, usually within a couple of hours. Once the piece, options and address are confirmed you get a secure payment link — card, PayPal or Apple Pay. Nothing is charged before you approve the sketch.
If the finished piece does not match the sketch you approved, we remake it at our cost — send a photo and we will start again. Personalised items cannot be returned for a change of mind, but a piece that misses the approved design is our problem, not yours.
Yes, free. Add a note in the order form and we will include a handwritten card and leave the price off the packing slip.
We keep a rolling record of finished work and work in progress. Write to us and we will send a batch that matches what you have in mind — or describe the piece you want and we will tell you honestly whether it can be made.
