01 · Likeness
No breed templates
“What if it looks like a generic breed, not my dog?”
A template gives you a golden retriever. A portrait gives you yours — the slightly uneven ears, the grey around the muzzle, the way he holds his head when he hears his name. We draw in pencil first, revise twice at no cost, and never touch leather, wood or silver until you say that’s him.
02 · Memorial & old photos
Phone photos welcome
“He passed away years ago, and my only photos are blurry.”
More than half of our commissions are memorial pieces. You do not need studio lighting. Send whatever phone photos you have left on WhatsApp — even if they are old or slightly out of focus — and tell us about their expression. We tell you honestly what can be recovered before you pay a cent.
03 · The 4–6 week wait
9–40 hours handwork
“Why does it take four to six weeks, and will I hear from you?”
Vegetable-tanned hide must be dampened, bevelled and dried slowly so it holds its relief; solid walnut and merino wool take up to forty hours of handwork. You are never left guessing: you see the sketch in three days, bench photos in between, and a finished studio photograph before packing.
04 · Transit & customs
8–12 days tracked air
“Will a delicate piece survive international shipping?”
Every piece travels inside a linen pouch, a rigid presentation box, and a corner-protected outer carton via DHL or UPS Express (8–12 days). Duties and import taxes are prepaid by us for the US, Canada and Australia — and if transit ever damages a piece, we carve it again at our cost.
